Folks, it's been a busy time for SCM. New singles pending for a number of acts, plus another new , exciting, signing!

The Latest Fallout continues to lead the charge, hitting the album charts yet again recently, on the back of their NZ wide Spring/Summer tour. They appeared on Good Morning again on Friday 14th November, surprising their fans by giving us their summer-days laden anthem August Sky.

Claudia Jardine continues to build her profile, gigging consistently throughout 2014 in both Wellington and her hometown of Christchurch. Watch out for 2015 and some rumours of recording some of her amazing material. ;)

There's a brand new Hannah Fryett single in the pipeline. Keep your ears open!

Type II may be looking at some airtime on major radio before the end of the year. Anyone ever heard of The Rock?... :P

We'll announce our new signing in a separate update, and upcoming news from them too.

Exciting times all round!

New guys in town - and they're NASTY!

We proudly announce we have signed a deal with Wellington-based hard rock/grunge crossover Type II. At times reminiscent of The Datsuns, at others the Beastie Boys at their snarling best, this young outfit has the goods to deliver, be it in the privacy of your headphones or on the stages of New Zealand and beyond. Pay attention to Type II!

New Zealand fans can pre-order their new 8 track extended EP here:

Folks, it's with heavy heart that we announce the demise of The Velvet Regime. Our Hutt Valley four piece have decided to call time on the band while they follow different paths, but have stated categorically that the industry has no heard the last of them in one guise or another. We wish Nigel, Jason, Joel and Stefan all the very best for the future and look forward to hearing their new works soon.

Hit album for The Latest Fallout.

We are thrilled to announce the release and immediate chart success of The Latest Fallout's self-titled debut album. On day 1 of release it entered the NZ iTunes National chart at number 9, has tracked all week and yesterday stood on Google Play's chart at number two. This has helped the album to chart on the OFFICIAL NEW ZEALAND NATIONAL TOP 20 at Number 13. The guys are speechless at the news. Not every day you get told your debut album just hit the top 20, right? ;)

Welcoming Claudia Jardine to Southern Collective.

A couple of years ago, a certain cheeky chirpy schoolgirl contacted Jack to "help a sister out" with some advice and assistance around getting her foot in the door of the NZ Music Industry. A couple of years later, that Cashmere High School lady has now relocated to Wellington, having picked up the 2012 APRA Lyric Award First Prize at the 2012 SmokeFree Rock Quest, for her beautiful song Erase Me. Here it is performed by Claudia herself:

Please join us in welcoming Claudia Jardine to Southern Collective for a Management and Development deal. We will work together to develop the steps needed for Claudia to make a name for herself, and when it comes time to record we will be releasing her on Southern Collective Music as well.

See below for Brendan Pyper's impassioned statement regarding the band's anti-bullying cause and go see them as they bring their amazing show to your town. On Friday 2nd May they will be appearing on TVNZ as Good Morning's Inspirational Kiwis, for this worthwhile cause and their full-on and vociferous support for it.

Hannah Fryett recently made her debut national TVNZ appearance, on the Good Morning show. Performing live, Hannah gave us her fabulous vocal strength and showed us her charm and warmth as a person and performer. Here's the video file for the performance:

Brendan's Message.

Hi my name is Brendan Pyper and I am the lead singer of the Hamilton band The Latest Fallout.

Our aim with our Anti Bullying Campaign is to ask school kids to treat others in a positive and healthy way and stop any negativity and jealousy. We want to have a talk about things like how badly I myself was bullied in school, and just to try and inspire others to see that no matter how hard it gets you can get through it and end up doing anything you want - even end up in a band, like me!

You can learn to turn the negatives into positives. Use the pain and how bad you're feeling to fuel a passion. That's the strongest weapon against your enemy. A lot of the bullying I received was people thinking and telling me that I will never be anything in this life; I will fail at everything.

My determination to prove them wrong kept me going and you can beat it too. I want to give words of positivity and hopefully inspire people to stop and think about their lives and what they are capable of! Stop the bullying and just get along. :)

Tauranga's Hannah Fryett and Hamilton rockers The Latest Fallout today made back to back premieres on national TV. The Latest Fallout's vid for Never Be The Same hit C4s Homegrown show just after 1pm, followed directly by Hannah's Make Her Yours.

Both acts have in the last two weeks experienced a huge upswell in interest and airplay across New Zealand, so the TV premieres have come at the perfect time for both acts. Jordan Owens and our other buddies at Sour Mash join us here in congratulating Hannah, Brendan, Jared, Matt and Jeremy on their growing success. Long may it continue!

Typhoon Benefit Concert NOW OFF

Hi folks,

We had kept pretty quiet on this site about the involvement we had with the Hope After Haiyan Philippines Typhoon Benefit concert, at Wellington's TSB Arena on Saturday 30th November.

The show, sadly, didn't go ahead. Headliner AARADHNA developed throat problems in the week running up to the show. This was a terrible shame after she took out Best Female Vocalist (beating LORDE!), Best Album and BEST Hip-Hop/Roots Album at the NZ Music Awards the weekend before the Benefit Show.

It was felt that, with the majority of NZ's main headline acts unable to forego other commitments due to such little notice period that the show was no longer viable as a fundraiser at that venue.

Southern Collective Music thanks, in no particular order, Nicolai Thomson (MD of LendYour Ltd.), Aaradhna, Dylan Keating, Callum August, Cornerstone Roots, Matt and Kimi Coleman, King Kapisi, Jupiter Project, Ian MacDonald, Five Mile Town, Fou Nature, Mad Mat, the organisers at PWV for the TSB Arena, Ticketek, MediaWorks, the Embassy of the Philippines, The Intercontinental Hotel and the faith and support of the wonderful people at UNICEF NZ. If we've missed anyone out it's certainly not deliberate!

Kia Kaha to the people of the Philippines.

Fuzzies to all,
