No to TPPA

Posted by Southern Collective Music on February 22, 2016 at 7:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Southern Collective Music, as a New Zealand independent music label, loses out alongside every other New Zealand music business, due to the GATS agreement preventing our Government from implementing policy guaranteeing higher local content on radio and TV. The threat of ISDS forced the prevailing governemt of the time to back down from implementing such changes.

This is not the fault of the people in authority in New Zealand TV and radio. This is not the fault of whichever government inherits the reins of power.

This is the fault of the people who signed the GATS agreement, and the people who threaten lawsuits in the event a local industry like the NZ music industry ever tries to increase local business advantages in the local market.

We at Southern Collective Music feel this is an absolute example of overseas interests being forcibly prioritised over local interests, forcing a sovereign government to put those overseas interests first or face lawsuits and reparations for lost royalties. This, we feel, shows how sovereignty is compromised by allowing ISDS to exist in a trade deal.

Due to this, amongst many other valid reasons, we are opposed to the Trans Pacific Partnership.

Strong debut single from Primacy

Auckland heavy metallers Primacy have hit the airwaves in a big way with debut single Shadeblack. A moody, riff laden work wherein McIver's clear vocal is countered by his primeval growl during the desolate chorus.

Available from iTunes NZ and Spotify NZ, check out the video on our Video History page.

McIver Collective Makes A Statement

With the release of their new single "Stoney Joe", The Jason McIver Collective asks us all to take a good look into the properties and virtues of medicinal herbs currently bracketed as criminal and illegal. The single parodies the established (or "establishment"?) view of who the campaigners for legalizing these medicines actually are. While not being what one would term a "stoner", Jason does believe in the legalizing of some medicinal herbs, and is frustrated by the old school painting the image of the pro-legalizers as wasted nobodies.

Get it from iTunes or stream it from Spotify. For the video simply pop onto our Video History page.

SCM Signs electronica act

NZ visual artist MANZO has been observing what he believes to be an increasingly dystopian world threatening our freedoms and individuality. Painting a bleak picture of a corporate-run western society in this concept album "Ultramarine", Manzo ties the sound and vision in with his artwork. Ultimately the artist wants more eyes open to the potential threat of stuff like TPPA etc.

Here are the striking videos the artist has put together. The concept is an artificial reality pasted onto our own reality, causing confusion into which the bad guys are adding their agendas.
